We leave the city centre of Athens for an escape to the “Riviera of Attica”. As we drive a long a scenic costal road with palm-fringed beaches and majestic view of the Saronic Gulf, we pass from some of the most beautiful suburbs (Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, Varkiza, Lagonissi and Anavissos).
Our first stop is at the lake of Vouliagmeni. Its natural beauty and tranquil environment will captivate you. The lake is about 50cm above sea level and so it is constantly overflowing and being replenished by the hot springs beneath it. The lake’s mineral and brackish waters have many healing properties. With a temperature ranging between 22 to 29 degrees Celsius (72 - 84 Fahrenheit) throughout the year, it offers the experience of a natural thermal spa.
Enjoy your leisure time here and swim at this silky waters or relax at the sunbeds and umbrellas that surround the lake. The cafeteria and restaurant located by Vouliagmeni lake are ideal for a beverage and snack.
The tour continues with a drive to the southern-most point of the entire peninsula, Cape Sounion. The ancient Greek traveler writer and geographer Pausanias mentions Cape Sounion at the very beginning of his description of Greece as a “sacred promontory of the Athenians”. Your guide will tell you the history and mythology of this unique location with great strategic and religious importance in ancient times.
You will visit the impressive Temple of Poseidon, built by the edge off the cliff, and enjoy a breathtaking view of the Aegean Sea. Available in the morning and afternoon, for a beautiful sunset experience.
