Ios is an island of the Cyclades surround by Paros, Naxos, Santorini and Sikinos. Ios is the island known for the Spring-Break themed nightlife which lasts all summer long! There you will find a vast variety of beaches some of which have given in the partying-wild trend while others have remained untouched.
The past few decades a number of investments have turned the island into trendy luxury destination attracting a lot of tourists every year. When you are in Ios no matter where you turn you will spot a white-washed church; beautiful discrete humble churches in every square, across the wild fields and the mountains.
Getting There
To reach Ios you can get a ferry or high-speed jet from the port of Piraeus on a daily basis. It is also a good destination if you are hoping from another island in the Cyclades, or cruising with a sailing boat. During the winter the connection with island is not as frequent so make sure you search for tickets in advance.
Where to Stay
There is a variety of luxury and mainstream hotels and rooms to let. The most central areas where you can book a room are: the capital town Chora, Mulopotas and Maganari. For those who like to be in touch with nature there are organized camping facilities at Mulopotas.
Beaches
The most popular beach is Milopotas, which you will find in a close distance from the capital town Chora, which is organized with umbrellas and sunbed and has a number of beach bars throwing all-day parties. Another beach with easy access is that of Agia Theodoti on the east side of the island which is an organized beach also and during the summer you can find three working tavernas. Other great beaches with easy access include Koumpara which is very close to the port, Magganari which is one of the outstanding beaches on the island and Gialos that is a few minutes away from the port of Ios which is family-friendly very clean with fine white sand and crystal clear blue water. A beach worth paying a visit is that of Kalamos, one great beach with fine white sand and light blue water. To reach Kalamos you will need a good car as the last 3.5 km of the journey evolve a rocky road. Additionally look out for Valma beach which is a sandy beach on the east coast among huge rocks and close to a taverna.
